We all know we need to eat more fruits and vegetables, right? It can be especially challenging to get enough greens, such as kale and spinach.
One really easy and yummy way to get lots of that raw goodness into you is with smoothies.
All you need is a blender and some fruits and veggies. And if you want to get fancy, you can throw in other things like chia or other seeds, raw honey, spirulina, and so on. For added liquids, coconut water and almond milk are good choices.
You can even add Micronized Purple Rice to your smoothies, although it is generally better to eat your MPR on its own with 1 to 2 ounces of water on an empty stomach. It gets absorbed into our cells better that way, to light up our ATP.
I also recommend drinking a quart of pure water first thing in the morning, right after your MPR. It helps with hydration and gets your body off to a good start for the day.
My daughter Jenn and I recently did a raw food cleanse that involved a lot of smoothies, and we loved it!
Here are five of our favorites. I’ve included two green smoothies and three fruitier ones, which are naturally sweeter.
Some of these contain frozen fruit, which gives a thick texture similar to ice cream. Be sure to peel before freezing, for those fruits that require it. And if you prefer a thinner texture, just don’t freeze the fruit first.
Also, these recipes are all vegan, but if you like you can add yogurt or milk.
Plus, there’s a bonus recipe at the end for chia seed pudding — for no other reason than the fact that it is simply delicious!
Emerald Green Smoothie
1 banana
1 handful raw spinach or baby kale
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 cup coconut water
1/2 avocado
1 tsp. chia seeds
1 tsp. pistachios
Blend everything but the pistachios. Pour into a large chilled glass and sprinkle the pistachios on top.
Green and Orange Smoothie
1 frozen banana
1 frozen orange, peeled and sectioned
1 handful of organic spinach
1 cup coconut water
Blend and enjoy in a tall, frosty glass. Garnish with an orange wheel.
Purple Passion Smoothie
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
1 frozen mango
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup almond milk
Blend and enjoy in a frosty mug. Garnish with a few fresh blueberries on top and a sprig of mint.
Strawberry-Kiwi Smoothie
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 frozen kiwi (peeled)
1/2 cup coconut water
Blend and enjoy; garnish with a whole, fresh strawberry.
Creamy Blueberry Cucumber Smoothie
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup peeled, sliced cucumber
1/2 cup coconut water
1 tablespoon raw honey
Blend and enjoy; garnish with a chunk of fresh pineapple.
Wildly Delicious Chia Seed Pudding
2 tbsp. chia seeds
1 cup almond milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tbsp. real maple syrup
Toasted coconut flakes (Dang brand is best)
Mix everything but the coconut flakes in a glass bowl and chill overnight in the refrigerator. The chia seeds will expand a lot and thicken the almond milk to a pudding-like consistency. Serve in a small bowl with the toasted coconut flakes sprinkled on top at the last minute.
As always, I want to hear from you!

All of them I love smoothie’s thank u for the recipe
All the smoothies seem to have a lot of fruit in them. I need to minimize all forms of sugar consumption. Do you have recipes for mainly greens and veggies and maybe a small potion of fruit? Since I’ve been restricting sugar, I’ve lost most of my taste for it.
I haven’t used fruit smoothies because of the high carbohydrate count and no significant protein. I’m used to balancing protein carbs and fat in 40-30-30 proportions. Aren’t these too high sugar especially for diabetics? Or pre-diabetics? Bananas especially are a high glycemic load.
Kare, these are great recipes! Thanks! You can also add raw cacao powder in the chia pudding to make chocolate pudding. It is yummy!
Also, just wondering if you want to share which raw food cleanse you did or did you just wing it? Also, was it effective as far as weight loss or any other positive results?
Hi Kare thank you for posting these great smoothies. My favorite is the creamy blueberry cucumber smoothie but I am going to them all I try. Thank you again
Yummy! I bet some fresh ginger and/or some fresh turmeric would be tasty too! Thx Kare!
I like all these recipes! Thank you for them, but I’m also looking for smoothie recipes for diabetics. Do you know of any or have an idea of where I can find them. It is difficult getting my husband to stay away from the sugar.
